New Jersey readers likely have seen recent reports on several popular products which were recalled due to consumer safety and health concerns. One of the most recent of these recalls concerns Wegman’s recall of products labeled as “organic spinach and spring mix salads,” due to fear of E. coli contamination. The potentially dangerous product consists of 9-ounce packages of spinach distributed by popular brand Fresh Express.
The spinach products have been recalled due to fear of contamination with salmonella bacteria. It was reportedly prompted after salmonella bacteria was discovered in tested samples. These samples were taken as a part of a random sample testing under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Microbiological Data Program.
The spinach products were distributed in at least 17 states. So far, reports indicate that no illnesses have been reported. Consumers should look for a “use-by” date of Nov. 7, 2012. The product code of S299B25 may also be present on the packaging. Fresh Express will issue a refund to any consumer who purchased the potentially dangerous spinach products.
Consumers in numerous states may benefit from checking the labels of any Fresh Express products purchases recently to ensure that they do not ingest the potentially dangerous product. Though no illnesses or injuries have been reported, such a commonly used product could still be ingested unintentionally. Anyone in New Jersey who believes they have consumed this product and become ill should seek medical attention right away. Individuals who consume products deemed unsafe and subsequently become ill may benefit from investigating their rights under New Jersey’s products liability laws. In some cases, a products liability claim may be a viable option for pursuing a demand for monetary damages resulting from an illness and resulting medical treatment due to an allegedly defective product.
