A malpractice case has been settled after a doctor failed to properly treat an ailment, according to sources. The Associated Press lobbied successfully for access to the record of one of the doctors involved, who was formally reassigned following the botched procedure. New Jersey residents may be interested to know the medical malpractice suit was paid out to the sum of $60,000.
The suit was filed by a woman suffering from an arteriovenous malformation, a rare condition that causes abnormal blood flow due to tangled blood vessels. The woman claims she came to see the doctor in question, who performed an embolization on her ear and scalp. She says the procedure was unsuccessful and she returned weeks later with severe damage to the area which the doctor failed to treat.
According to the victim in question, the doctor told her several more surgeries would be required in order for the condition to be dealt with, but the doctor shortly thereafter left the country to work in China and never rescheduled. The doctor claims the onus is on his secretary who failed to reschedule the appointment. The case has been settled in court for $60,000 in damages.
Medical malpractice is a serious charge both in New Jersey and elsewhere. It is the responsibility of medical professionals to ensure they live up to the standards put forth by medical authorities throughout the nation, and those who do not live up to those standards must be brought to task. Anyone who believes their condition may have been misdiagnosed or improperly handled is urged to seek additional medical advice and learn more about their right to file suit against a medical professional who may have been in error.
